Trail Conditions

Changes along the Trail and Areas Where Caution is Advised
as of July 16, 2010

Trail Segment Location Problem Status
All Segments   Tree fall There are many places along the trails where trees are down following the microburst storm on June 24th. Clearing activities are underway, but please use caution when encountering down trees.
VFW to Holmes Ave.     Look for short road walk between River Road and Megan Court. From the south, turn away from the river to get out to River Road. Turn right. At locust Ave. turn right. At Megan Ct. turn right. Look for trailhead sign at the end of Megan Ct. This section of the trail involves less than .5 miles of road walk. The road walk is blazed except at the intersection of Locust and Megan Ct. From the south (counterclockwise), turn right at Megan Ct. From the west, (clockwise), go straight on Megan Ct., then turn left on Locust.
Melbourne Road to Greenbrier Park Entire section Trail closed Due to construction of the Meadowcreek Parkway this section will be closed until the project is complete. Look for detour information posted on our web site and at trail closed signs at Park Street and in Greenbrier Park.
Greenbrier Park from RR to Brandywine Dr Entire section Sewer construction Work is proceeding in the replacement of the sewer interceptor through Greenbrier Park. The trail is open, but be cautious to avoid the construction area.
Stribling Ave. to Sunset Ave. Entire section Unmarked road walk Until permission to build trail is received, this section is on lightly traveled roads. It is currently unblazed. From the Stribling trailhead, turn right on Stribling, right on Sunset Rd., then right on Sunset Ave. Be cautious of an area of washout between Sunset Ave. and McElroy Dr.
McElroy Dr. to Azalea Park Entire section Unmarked road walk Until permission to build trail is received, this section is on roads, some busy. From the end of McElroy, go straight on McElroy, right on Middleton, straight across Old Lynchburg. Turn right on Mobile Lane, and turn left at the trail sign.
5th Street Ext'd to Bent Creek At 5th Street Detour around unsafe bridge The trail detour uses sidewalks along Bent Creek to reach the traffic signal at 5th Street Extended.  Cross 5th Street at the signal and turn left (south) to head towards Moore's Creek.   At the Christian Aid entrance, follow the signs down the hill to Moore's Creek and the trail.
Quarry Park Bridge At Quarry Park Bridge closed The bridge at Quarry Park is now closed for repair or replacement. Please use the trailhead off Route 20 to access the RTF Loop.
Quarry Park to mouth of Moores Creek Mouth of Moore's Creek Crossing is about knee deep. We are still seeking permission to construct a bridge across Moore's Creek.
